Timed Survey

Use Response Time Settings when each respondent must finish the entire survey within a fixed duration. A countdown shows remaining time from the moment they start the form. If they do not submit before time expires, the attempt can be treated as incomplete rather than a full valid completion.

This differs from scheduling and auto-close rules (open/close windows or caps on total responses). Pair timers with Testing the survey and quiz flows so limits feel fair on mobile and desktop.

Choosing a realistic limit matters: if the cap is too short, people skip questions and response quality drops; if it is too long, you lose the benefit of a controlled session. Pilot with teammates before high-stakes launches.

FAQ

What does the Responsly survey timer do?

It shows respondents how much time remains to finish the entire survey from when they start. If they exceed the limit, the attempt may be recorded as incomplete according to your setup.

Is the timer the same as scheduling when a form opens or closes?

No. Start dates, deadlines, and auto-close after a response count are configured under broader response time settings—see Time limit to complete the survey.

Why use a timer?

Timers help standardize duration for exams, knowledge checks, or research where pacing should be comparable across participants.
